Do you remember that incedent at our a home where someone tried to push their way through my front door (thank god for deadbolts)? Or how about the time that someone came banging on our door late at night, stopping at nothing to get my attention. If I knew of August Home then, this would all be a different story.
Happy to report we finally found a surveillance home security system. One that checks all the boxes for both our wants and needs. It only took us 2 years, but we found the right one. I’m excited to introduce you to August Home. Our home is now setup with a August Home Security Doorbell Cam and a Smart Lock Pro. The two combined make a dream team for home security. First, let me tell you about why it took us so long to find the perfect one.
Both Sammy and I were looking for a good quality system both in daylight and darkness. A lot of Doorbell Cam systems claim to have the best, but further read into their reviews and you’ll find it’s not quite the case. We narrowed things down to about 3 Home Security Systems we liked at this point. Next we considered was;
The cost of a Doorbell Cam can really vary and even thought quality came first we naturally based our next decision on price. This usually works in your favor when you’re buying systems around the holidays where there are deals to be had. You don’t have to sacrifice on quality if you watch for a good deal. Next we looked for;
- No Monthly Fees
Almost all the Doorbell Cams we came across had a monthly fee. Storage for all the videos your cam would take came at a cost. Although I totally understand why, I didn’t want to pay it; only because I didn’t feel we needed it. Finding a system that had no monthly fees or optional monthly fee was important to us.
Considering all 3 of those aspects of what we were after in a Doorbell Cam, we went with August Home.
The quality of the videos were great in both daylight and low-light situations. I wasn’t looking for HD quality but enough that should we need (so help us god) to report someone, the video’s would actually be helpful. The cost of the Doorbell Cam and Smart Lock Pro were comparible to all the others in it’s standard on the market. But where things got interesting were the monthly fees. August Home had a free option for their Doorbell Cams. They would store your videos for 24 hours at no cost, but thereafter they would be deleted. If you needed to save a video it had to be done within 24 hours of the recording. This was exactly what we wanted, that worked for us just fine.
Our main reason for the Doorbell Cam was so that I could answer the door without actually answering the door. The doorbell gets hit, my phone rings, I can answer it from anywhere without actually opening the door. The couch, my bed, the car, Tim Hortons Drive-Thru. Funny story actaully, my first time using the system was in the Tim Hortons Drive-Thru (I know, so Canadian right?). UPS was attempting to deliver a package. I answered the door, let them know I was just busy at the moment and if they could just leave it behind the plant. And then I ate a maple glazed donut and drove off into the sunset.
YOU GUYS! The August Home Doorbell Cam is what dreams are made of.
The Smart Lock Pro was not really a nessesity, but more the cherry on top of a Home Security cake. It allows Sammy and I to unlock and lock our door with our smartphone. Think how conveneint this is when carrying ALL THE GROCERIES inside at once. No more finding or fumbling with your keys. It also allows us to setup temporary keys for friends and family. For example, we can virtually send someone a house key that is good for say 3 days while they’re in town. Or if you have a cleaner that comes in once a week, or a trade working in your home. You can offer them keys to your home through their smartphone that you have FULL control over.
We loved the system and thought the two together made the perfect pair.
extremely simple! The August Home app walked us through a step-by-step instruction with visuals on how to install both the Doorbell Cam and Smart Lock Pro. The only hiccup we came up on was the strength of our internet connection and then adding Sammy as a home owner on the app. We called the Customer Service number and the calls were answered quickly and the problems solved even quicker. In our case, it was user error (story of my life).
Sammy and I are so happy with our new Home Security System. Now paired with our exsisting monitored alarm, I’m feeling so much safer, day and night. That and can we just say how awesome it is to never miss a package again?!
