Proud that we tackled a project on our Summer Bucket List even though I knew it would be messy. We learnt how to TIE DYE SHIRTS!
Although it’s not rocket science, tie dye can be tedious. It can also be extremely permanent on the skin for a good week or two. Take my word for it, and don’t follow our guide in the vlog. Wear the gloves they provide and wear them proudly.
Although it’s not rocket science, tie dye can be stressful. You need to go in with an idea and work quick. It can also be extremely permanent on the skin for a week or two. Take my word for it, and don’t follow my suggestion to SCREW THE GLOVES in the vlog. Do the opposite, wear the gloves and wear them proudly. Avoid the smurf life if you can, we lived it and it’s not what it’s cracked up to be.
HOW TO TIE DYE
Learning how to tie dye can actually be quite fun. The girls and I searched out some methods and designs on YouTube and followed some favorites. Stella made shorts with a rainbow effect, and Sofia did one of her shirts into a funky spiral. With so many methods to choose, you’re going to want to do this again. That, or make sure you have a few things ready to tie dye because the actual dye is only good for a few hours once made.
In learning how to Tie Dye, we used this kit (USA/CDN) that was just perfect. With just enough colors, it also came with a boat load of elastics and gloves. The same gloves we regretted not using. The best fabrics for Tie Dye are natural; like cotton, rayon, hemp and linen. And while 100% fabrics are best a blend like 90% Cotton and 10% Polyester work too.
