Stainglass Cookies Recipe ⋆ Tairalyn

Today is a scrumptious day, and yet a rather perfect ending to a fun and festive 12 Days of Christmas Traditions. Me and my mama friends have joined forces over the past 12 days, sharing our Family Traditions during the holidays. Sharing with our readers holiday fun to do with your families, adopting our traditions as your own.

I’m concluding the 12 days of love, with my Stainglass Cookies Recipe. I used to bake these as a child with my family during the holidays. We used to go away each year to a cabin on the lake. We’d spend the weekend there playing games, watching Christmas shows and baking. These memories are so vivid to me and I honestly will never forget them. Now, that I have a wee family of my own, I have chosen to do this with Sofia Marie, in hope to create these fond memories with her through the years.

Once the dough has been made, and refrigerated, working with the dough can be quite fun for all. Sofia Marie is only 14 months however squishing it and poking it seemed to be something she really loved. I wasn’t terribly concerned it she put any in her mouth as who doesn’t love a little raw dough now and again? By “now and again” I mean quite often, if not weekly in my world.

We decided on just using s simple circle cookie cutter, and then choosing our own shapes for the centers. From squares to circles to hearts and stars. They all looked pretty fabulous, however my favorite was the yellow stars. If you were deciding on hanging these on your tree, make sure you punch out a small hole at the tops of your cookies before they go into the oven. Once they are out, let them cool, string them with twine and hang them on your Trees. If of course, you have furry friends, I suggest hanging them high.

Stainglass Cookies Recipe

1/2 cup Butter, softened
1/2 cup Sugar
1/2 cup Honey
1 Egg
1 tsp Vanilla
3 cups Flour
1 tsp Baking Powder
1/2 tsp Baking Soda
1/2 tsp Salt
Lifesavers Candies

Directions

Mix butter, sugar, honey, egg and vanilla in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until well blended. Add flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; mix well. Cover. Refrigerate at least 2 hours.

Preheat your oven to 350°F. Place dough on lightly floured surface; roll out to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes with 2-1/2- to 3-inch floured cookie cutters. Trace smaller version of each cookie shape on dough, leaving 1/2- to 3/4-inch border of dough. Cut out and remove dough from center of each shape; set aside. Place cutouts on baking sheets covered with foil. Shape remaining dough into ball; re-roll to make additional cutouts.

Smash your Lifesavers individually by their colors, in a ziploc bag with a wooden spoon. Then carefully, spoon crushed candy inside the centers of each cookie cutouts.

Bake for around 6 to 8 minutes or until candy is melted and cookies are lightly browned. Cool cookies completely before removing from foil.

You have inspired me to make cookies with my little ones! They will love to be able to hang them on the tree. My 20 month old loves squishing and poking, I am sure it will be fun for everyone.
