I food fight often; meaning I fight with myself on what I know is best and what I know isn’t but love so much. Some people call is an unhealthy relationship with food, I like to call is a passion for food. I mean this honestly, I love food, I appreciate food, some like to socially drink or smoke, me I like to enjoy a night with friends over brie. I don’t find this to be unhealthy, but I do know that I need to start limiting those indulgences and in turn enjoy them even more when these occasions come. Am I making sense yet? If not I blame the lack of carbs I’ve had over the last 3 days.
I met with my naturopath on Friday and she gave me the kick in the ass that I needed, the one I desperately didn’t but actually wanted to hear; “Tairalyn, you need to loose 50 lbs – end of story”. She gave me many suggestions for all the discomfort I’ve been feeling in my calves {the beauty of varicose veins}, “never wear flats again” she says. HA! Does she know who she is talking to; never wear flats again, she says it so nonchalantly, like as if this won’t change my life. Flats are a must, I’m a mother, I crave to get dressed with ease and I pride myself in being able to literally run out the door WHILE putting on my shoes. Don’t wear flats she says. HA! And to think she actually reads my blog, she should have known better than to just throw that at me without easing into it. BUT because I know it’s best, I now sit here and hunt down an insole that can give my heel a mini lift, appeasing both doctor and patient.
Next she tells me we will start with a cleanse lasting a week, working our way into a diet that’ll be easy, she says. HA! Diet. Easy. I highly doubt this will be easy; but this doesn’t mean I won’t be doing it. The weight needs to come off, if not for myself then for my family who needs me here for a good long while. I mean who’s going to cook Sofia her chicken strips and fries and fold Sammy’s underwear exactly how he likes it? So THREE CHEERS for health, happiness and folding underwear!
———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————
Easy {week long} Cleanse
64oz Water
1 Lemon | thinly sliced
1 Cucumber | peeled, sliced
1 to 2 tsp Gingers | grated
10 to 15 Mint Leaves
Fill a water pitcher with your 64oz of distilled water adding all your ingredients and place in the fridge overnight. Come morning have one 8oz glass one hour before breakfast and another two hours after; doing the same for every meal, one hour before and 2 hours after. Finish the balance two glasses through out your day where you choose or at the end of your evening.
———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————-
I am to complete this Cleanse with only one diet change, absolutely no carbs with the exception of fruit, but limited to 3 pieces a day. Thus far it hasn’t been that bad, not as bad as one might suspect when they’re told they must remove bread and potatoes from their everyday. HA! Stay tuned for an update next week, I’ll let you know how the entire Cleanse went and what type of “easy diet” that the doctor has prescribed.
PS: Nothing like throwing yourself out there by posting yourself sans-makeup and at the absolute worst angels ever. I can however give myself major props for being amazing at “sucking it in” up to this point. No? Do I get an award or anything; I bet Baby Sideburns has one with my name on it!
Seems you and I are on a very similar path right now. I will be cheering you on! I’m on a mission to loose 25 – 50 lbs too. Proud of you and we are all here to support you.
Let’s do this Tamara! We owe it to ourselves….
I’m rooting you on 110% of the way, reach out if you need anything at all.

I love you for this and for putting this all out there, you’re awesome!! You have inspired me MAMA!! Way to GO!! xoxo
Thank you Diana. I felt very vulnerable the moment it went live. Vulnerable and nervous however with all this positive reinforcement has made me realize it’s exactly what I was supposed to do.

So tempted to do this cleanse myself.. 🙂 But what do you do with the cucumber thats in the water? Do you eat it at the end of the day or… ( would hate to see it go to waste)… Will be watching and cheering you on this!
Love, Meghna
You should Meghna, you see I’ve never actually done a cleanse myself and I think this was a great starter as it has been very gentle with me. I have simply thrown out the cucumber/lemon combo after it has steeped for the night, however if you were crafty you could probably make it into a cucumber salad with feta and tomatoes 🙂
Thank you so very much for commenting, your encouragement means a LOT! It’s what will keep me going.

Good for you! You can do it!! I too have a big love for food. I started eating better a year ago and was able to lose 30 lbs!! Stay strong and stick to it. You will feel so much better. <3
Thank you Amanda, nothing like connecting on a food based level 🙂
Wow 30lbs — great job! ARe you documenting it someplace, if so I would love to stay connected with you.
Thanks for the comment it really means a lot!

Good for you! I started a cleanse today too. I also just took all my starting measurements, and I’m excited since I think the measurements is where I’m going to see to biggest differences. I’m going to follow your progress. Good luck, fellow health-follower!
A cleanse is really the best way to ease into things. So happy I went this route. Are you posting your journey anywhere Lizz? I would love to follow along.
Thank you so much for your support, it honestly means a LOT.

Good for you Tairalyn. I’m right there with you. I probably should lose 50 pounds too. It’s always been on my “1 day list”. Last year I was a writer for the Today’s Parent Healthy Family Challenge and managed to take 20 pounds off (and keep it off) but then plateaued and haven’t lost anything else. I’ve been considering doing weight watchers… this sounds like a good plan too. Anxious to follow along on your journey.
