It’s August, which means with a blink of an eye it’s going to be September and we will all be in back-to-school mode. From the shopping, to school supply checklists and getting back into a daily routine; I don’t know about you but I for one cannot wait. Bring on the early mornings, cereal breakfasts and sense of structure!
So for those of you who truly know me, you know I wouldn’t back down to a challenge – especially a fashion challenge. So when we were approached to join a First Day of School Fashion Challenge with Walmart they didn’t even have to finish the pitch and we were sitting pretty, front seat on that bandwagon!

Sofia was equipped with a gift card and two rules (one from Walmart and one from me); get everything you need for the first day back to school and do it all within your allotted budget. She spent a great deal of time putting together her list and packing her purse with the appropriate necessities to get the challenge done and done right (proud mama moment). She took a handful of change from her piggy-bank and dumped it in her favorite red patent Hello Kitty purse, along with that her Walmart gift card, topped it off with a clear Minnie Mouse lip gloss and her Taco Terry Shopkin (don’t ask, I never do). We set out nice and early Friday morning and I literally let her run the show. I told her I will help her keep track of the costs of everything and let her know if she’s gone over her limit and she would have to make sure she got all she wanted; that was my job, and she knew hers.
It took just about two hours and included one pee break and a snack stop. We got to the till and I continued to let her delegate and run the show (sorry paying customers behind us). The cashier rings everything through and says “…and the total is” and then this is where things got super cute! Sofia shuts her eyes and clenches them waiting for the total (it was seriously the sweetest!).
…that will be $104.80 please!
She looked at me, and said, “Don’t worry mum, I got some extra monies from my piggy-bank!” I came up from loading the bags into our cart to help count out the difference she needed. She handed it all to the cashier with the biggest grin on her face and said, “It’s all mine, all this stuff is mine, for school n’ stuff, I start kindergarten soon.”
:: Here is what she got ::
Cupcake Backpack
Hello Kitty Thermos
George Mix n’ Match Socks
Two George Graphic Tees
Cape/Jacket
George Quilted Skirt
Rubber Boots
My Little Pony Pencils
Cupcake Sharpener
Panda Notebook
We had so much fun being a part of this Fashion Challenge with Walmart. Looking at her back-to-school haul I would say she succeeded. She literally got all she needed for her first day of school, minus the actual lunch itself and a mama pep-talk. We’re ready for kindergarten, the readiest we will ever be!

In exchange for this review, I have received special perks in the form of products and/or compensation. As always the opinions on this blog are my own, clearly Sofia loved each item she bought and given the amount she spent vs. what she got, she more than got her monies worth.
