Sammy and I are all about saving for Sofia’s future. This was a priority on our ‘new parents’ to do list, next to feed baby and change baby. Honest to goodness it’s funny how two people so different in spending habits could agree on saving. Sammy is a saver, and I am sure you can guess where I fit in, but when Sofia Marie was born, the top of our list had “setup savings and a RESP”.
…are you doing all that you can to save for your childrens future?
I want nothing more than for Sofia to grow up dreaming as much as I do. I want money to be the last of her worries when it comes to a life long career. The skies the limit for this babe and I just know if she takes after me, she will find her true calling in life and stop at nothing until she gets there. However if she is anything life her father, she will be a realist and take stressing to a whole new level. Either parent Sofia takes after, I truly believe that a saving for her will not only help us sleep soundly at night, but allow Sofia to dream big. What more could a parent want?
…did you know that the government will contribute to your childrens RESP?
So after further digging I find out that the Canada Education Savings Grant will match up to 20% on the first $2,500 contributed annually {which could calculate to $500 a year} up to a lifetime maximum of $7,200. I also learnt that they have the flexibility to use the RESP for university, college, apprenticeship, and non-credit courses, and if your child doesn’t use the funds, you can use your contributions and earnings to fund your RRSP. Sometimes all this information comes off as extremely daunting, I’m also very aware that it’s not always easy to obtain. So I am beyond thankful that RBC has reached out to a select group of bloggers to inform, enlighten, and help spread the word about RESP’s.
If you are curious to learn more about Royal Banks RESP’s and other ways to save for your children’s future, pop over here and read more. You can also reach out to them on Twitter @RBC_Canada with the hashtag #SaveWithRBC with any basic questions regarding their RESP’s or even sharing in your personal saving goals with your babes, I know they would love to hear them!
I am part of the RBC RESP blogger program with Mom Central Canada and I receive special perks as part of my affiliation with this group. Please know that all my opinions and information I share on the site are those that I truly stand behind. Including saving for my child’s future. The opinions on this blog are my own.
