Date Night Ideas is not something I ever thought I would be writing much about. Why? Well, I’m a mom. THE END.
It’s been embarrassingly long since Sammy and I have been on a date. Like years ago long. No need for your “but Dr. Laura said” comments folks. We know this isn’t healthy. Let’s just say it’s my unofficial new year resolution to start dating Sammy more. That, and attempt making cannoli.
A few weeks back the stars aligned and we managed our first date in forever. We had a whole night to ourselves, childless. But now what? Date night ideas was not our forte, clearly.
Then I remembered, an arcade had recently opened up right here in Vancouver (New Westminster to be exact), called Capital City Arcade. They have over 60 arcade games from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s as well as a NACHO BAR! We needed no more convincing. This was our kinda’ night out!

One of the coolest things about Capital City Arcade was how you pay for the games. They’ve saved us an evening of heavy pockets. You pay by the hour for UNLIMITED PLAY. Meaning you put no money into the machines and simply play until you can no longer move your wrist. That, or your times up.
RATES//
Adults are $12 an hour or $25 for the day, kids 4-12 are $8/hr or $16.50 a day and littles 3 and under are free. The only additional charges are the pinball machines at .50 a play.
We dove into an hour of playing before having a bite to eat. Sammy relived his childhood in back-to-back-to-back games of 1942 while I attempted a top score at Pac-Man. I forgot just how much I loved that game.
We wanted to order ALL the featured Nachos. But also wanted to avoid the judgement that would come along with it. So we agreed Sammy would order the Roller Disco, and I would get the Street Fighter.
Roller Disco // Tortilla Chips with shredded chicken, black beans, topped with red onions, peppers, olives, pico de gallo, and avocado crema
Street Fighter // Kettle Chips with pulled pork, black beans, queso blanco, topped with green onions, pineapple, bulgogi sauce, with a sriracha crema drizzle.
I can’t even begin to explain you guys! Kettle Chips. Sriracha drizzle. I mean who would’ve thought? Avocado crema? Like come on! We were in FOODIE HEAVEN. Honestly, we went in thinking the games would be the highlight of the night. We were absolutely wrong.
Went back in for another hour of play. While I lost miserably in Donkey Kong, Sammy got his name on the high score board.
Walking out, we considered asking for Nachos to go, but instead promised each other we would be back. VERY SOON. Hashtag couples goals
Pop by our highlights reel on Instagram and see how the night unfolded in video. I’ve created one just for our EPIC date nights. Might be a great little resource for locals looking to find some fun, outside the box date night ideas.
