Camping in BC at it’s finest.
If anyone asks what we did in 2020, I can answer very simply. We isolated from humans for 3 months, we did school from home and we took to the road and did ALL THE CAMPING.
Camping in BC is like no other and I consider my family and I extremely lucky (we are grateful) to have campsites like Riverside Camping & RV Resort right in our backyard.
We have been going non-stop since buying our trailer back in July with no plans on stopping anytime soon. YOU GUYS! Sammy just booked us into another campground mid-October. It’s a good thing this little guy has a heater!
ABOUT RIVERSIDE CAMPING & RV RESORT
Only 1 hour and 50 minutes from Vancouver, Riverside Camping & RV Resort is located Whistler. With a very short walk from the campsite to Whistler Village you can be sure that there is PLENTY to do for your whole family here.
As the name may have given off, Riverside is located next to Fitzsimmons Creek. The Fitzsimmons Creek is a large creek in Whistler, having it’s origins at the Fitzsimmons Glacier in the Garibaldi Ranges of the Coast Mountains. So yes IT’S COLD. And yes IT’S GORGEOUS.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM RIVERSIDE RESORT
Riverside is open all year round (with FREE WiFi)! If you’ve been dreaming of roasting marshmallows over an open fire in 3′ of snow, well now you can. Riverside is open for Winter RV’ing (Cabin and Yurt Rentals available too) and I don’t know about you but I’m sorta’ intrigued. The resort offers both partial and full-service RV hook-up sites as well as walk-in tent camping, cabin and yurt rentals.
Riverside Camping & RV Resort has all a family would need in a campsite, PLUS MORE. They have a cafe located in the resort, Riverside Junction Cafe, open daily for breakfast and lunch. Your kids will be excited to learn their is a park, mini golf, beach volleyball and paved paths all through the resort which is a bike-riders dream!
The campsite also has a lot of activities you can take advantage of including bike and snow shoe rentals. I’m pretty much convinced we’re going to experience Winter camping this year. It would make for good TV I’m sure of it, so stay tuned. We’re bound to document this for our YouTube and IGTV Channels.
One thing that we were extremely impressed with at this campsite how clean they were. The precautions they took because of COVID-19 was extremely comforting and impressive. Sanitizer stations at check-in as well as their cafe and activity rentals building. We also noticed when a site would become vacant, an employee would go in and sanitize down everything from picnic tables, hook-up boxes and campfire pits.
So very impressed.
THINGS TO DO AROUND RIVERSIDE RESORT
The resort itself has enough to keep any family busy for days, but naturally if you are looking to check out Whistler and all it has to offer, let me help with that.
There is the obvious, Whistler Village, which is home to all the shopping and eating you may ever want. Also, depending on the time of year you can ski, snowboard, tube, ice skate and even bike Whistler Mountain. If you’re looking to be one with nature, they have an insane amount of beautiful family-friendly hikes in Whistler. The one we did was called Sea-to-Sky Train Wreck (or the Whistler Train Wreck) and it was brilliant. A rather easy, mostly flat, 30-minute hike in (30 minutes out). A beautiful suspension bridge crossing the Cheakamus River takes you to one of Whistlers popular attractions, the train wreck. 7 colorfully painted box cars are riddled through out the forest which have been sitting there since 1956. It’s a fun and easy hike which offer great photo-ops.
There are so many more hikes, I highly recommend you check out Vancouver Trails or Outdoor Vancouver for some more ideas.
All along the Fitzsimmons Creek they have little beach spots that are perfect for families. Setup a chair, umbrella for shade, bring some snacks and bottled water and sit, let the kids dig in the sand and play in the tidal pools.
We spent an entire day here, with zero regrets.
OUR FINAL THOUGHTS
We could not be more happy with the way things were at the Riverside Camping & RV Resort. We are so very lucky to be Camping in BC during these unprecedented times.
We hope that we can sneak in another visit to Riverside this year. And fingers crossed there is a dusting of snow on the ground. We need to experience camping in the snow. Are you even Canadian is you haven’t?

Camping is the perfect “stay local, socially distant” family fun activity! I wonder if we should try this for our next #5DadsGoWild trip….
