We’re home from an 8-day road trip to the Oregon Coast, and after an over-night stay in Washington, I’m sharing what I feel are the BEST things to do in Olympia for Families.
My goal for this family road trip was to focus on experiences over material possessions. I was all about collecting memories as a family versus bringing home ALL THE THINGS. The trip kicked-off with an overnight stay in Olympia Washington,where we had 24 hours to do all the best things in Olympia as a family.
STAY IN A TINY HOUSE
I booked our family of four into a Tiny House via airbnb. We arrived, got ourselves settled and met our roomies. Moo Moo and Trooper are two goats that lived on the property and would rely on us to give them love in the form of attention and treats. Remember, I said this road trip was all about collecting expereinces.
The home, although only 184sq feet, was extremely well planned out. With the tall ceilings, thanks to the two bedroom lofts, and the perfectly appointed windows, surprisingly the space felt anything but small.
We think everyone should stay in a Tiny House with their family at least once in their life. If you’re staying in Olympia Washington, we highly recommend this one. It was an extremely affordable stay, at a little over $100 a night and no cleaning fees, we left paying $150 canadian and an expereince we will never forget.
VISIT THE HANDS ON CHILDREN’S MUSEUM
The next morning we headed to downtown Olympia, visiting their Hands On Children’s Museum. We arrived just as the doors we’re opening and there was already a line forming. The place is clearly a popular destination. We could’ve spent an entire day there, open to close. Sofia and Stella instantly gravitated to all the pretend play stations. Sofia was picking from a wooden veggie garden and selling them at her general store. While Stella cooked in her kitchen, she payed a visit to the flower market to pretty-up her dinner table.
Olympia’s Hands On Children’s Museum has more than 150 hands-on exhibits spread out over two floors, including an Outdoor Discovery Center all heavily influenced by the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Undeniably it’s a perfect stop for families looking for some fun.
Olympia’s Hands On Children’s Museum was really the number one reason we planned a stop there. While it would’ve costed our family $60US (2 adults and 2 kids), they were running a promotion that weekend and we only ended up paying $40US. Above all, $60 or $40 it was worth EVERY. PENNY.
EAT AT PEPPERS MEXICAN RESTAURANT
We stumbled across Peppers Mexican Restaurant somewhat on accident. Because we all had a craving for authentic mexican food, we googled what was near and found Peppers. Walking distance from the Hands On Children’s Museum and great reviews; no more convincing was needed. Authentic decor, friendly staff, and huge menu. While the girls ordered the least mexican thing on the menu, Cheese Burger and Fries, Sammy and I went as Mexican as you can get. Chicken Burrito’s and Beef Taco’s.
The food was so good, honestly no pictures could ever do it justice. Everyone left happy, tummies full and leftovers. Surprisingly, we got our bills and realize KIDS EAT FREE on Sunday’s (dine-in only). Really the day could not get any better!
In Conclusion;
I truly believe we found the best things to do in Olympia for families while we were there. I’m sure there are more, but for the time we had these were the best. Both girls are already asking to go back. Can’t figure out if it’s for the goats, the children’s museum or the happy face fries at Peppers. Nevertheless Olympia has not seen the last of us.
