It’s nearly here YOU GUYS! Family Summer Vacations are just around the corner. Where are you going?
I know first hand just how much planning can go into these Summer Vacations, oh gosh do I ever. I mean the hours upon hours that I’ve spent researching and organizing some of our Family Vacation is just BONKERS (case in point; our last Disneyland reveal)! But in the end, worth every hour of lost sleep and penny spent.
Family Summer Vacations is upon us and with how much effort I put into our vacation plans I would hate to see anything go wrong. Forgetting a bathing suit while on a beach vacation, or getting onto your 8 our flight with kids and misplacing a tablet. These are a parents worst nightmare. These are MY nightmares you guys! The weeks leading up to a Family Vacation my dreams could scare the most seasoned of family vacationers.
I will share 5 essentials for all Summer Vacations. Let’s make sure no vacation this Summer ends up with anyone in tears.
If I don’t pack them, everybody will go without. Do your families totally forget about hats too? Maybe it’s the first thing on my mind because I wear them ALL THE TIME to save myself from bad hair days. Consequently hats are an essential Summer Vacation staple around here. From staying out of the sun or saving any one person from a hair-catastrophe, hats for everyone in the family is an absolute must.
When packing sunblock for a Summer Vacation I like to take an array, including Coppertone ClearlySheer Whipped and Coppertone SPORT Stick Sunscreen. I like to make sure all my bases are covered from waterproof to easy on and sticks. They stay all together in a ziploc bag and get thrown from purses to beach bags with ease. The very last thing you need is a family who needs to stay indoors all thanks to a sunburn. We don’t want that.
I will admit, I have forgotten sunglasses for my littles a few times on our Family Vacations. Although this sounds like something that’s easily replaceable. IT’S NOT! Kids glasses are not as easy to find as adults. Make sunglasses for the entire family the first thing you pack next vacation. Even if they forget them in the hotel room, which they will, at least you can make a quick trip back to grab them. Trying to find the closest Target is not always an option. But should you find yourself there, you might as well make the most of it and shop the clothing department.
I’ve lived through a Family Vacation where someone’s trip was ruined because of allergies. I will forever travel with allergy medication like Aerius and hydraSense from this day forward. The last trip we took to California my dad struggled with allergies for more than half of our 10-day vacation and it was heart breaking. At most destinations it’s very simple to just go out and buy, but it wasn’t until day 2 or 3 that we figured it to be allergies. Should we have had it with us we certainly would’ve tried it sooner.
From road trip to catching flights a Family Summer Vacations is not complete without lots of snacks. AM I RIGHT?! I call myself a professional road trip snack planner and take the position quite seriously. Each child is equip with their own snack box including an adult version for the front seat. While I encourage they choose their own snacks, they’re well aware it’s at a 50/50 ratio of healthy snacks to treats. Snack have saved me on so many occasions I can’t remember. You name it, any child catastrophe a snack can fix. You can watch a little road trip vlog on my tips on packing for the family including an adorable little montage of how this family shops for snacks.
Here’s hoping you can take away some tips on packing for your next Family Summer Vacation and avoid any face-palm moments. Starting with a list early on in your planning stages can also help with making sure you forget nothing. As a result, the perfect vacation! Do you have any additional tips you want to share, please do. We’re forever updating our travel essentials list and would love to hear them.

YES to hats and snacks!!! I always forget the sunblock, and sunglasses just get lost / broken around here (despite my daughters’ love of them). We don’t have allergies so thankfully I don’t have to worry about that. But yes, vacations take so much planning! ๐ Thanks for sharing your tips. ๐
Coppertone has some of my favorite sunscreens.
